Q1 To start taking Ikebana lessons, what is necessary to buy?

A1 The Sogetsu textbook for beginners which is available in StudioF, and Ikebana scissors (available in StudioF or other shops), are necessary items. After the class, you can take home all the plant materials you arranged. When you rearrange the flowers again doing a review of the lesson, you need a basin, kenzan and a tall vase. However you can acquire these items gradually.

      

Q2 What kind of plant materials are prepared for classes?

A2 Some materials are available all year round. However, flowering branches such as Cherry, Azalea, Spirea, etc. are available seasonally only. In addtion there are usually 2 kinds of flowers. Or instead of flowering brahces there are leaves and berries we can arrange. For beginners, plant materials that are easy to arrange are available. After completing curriculum2, materials which are appropriate to each lesson theme are used. You can take all of the materials home so that you can enjoy the lifestyle with Ikebana!

 

Q3 What should I do to become a Sogetsu Ikebana teacher?

A3 In order to obtain a certification as a teacher of the Sogetsu School, it is necessary to take classes covering textbooks for curriculums 1 to 5 to get a teacher's licence. For more details, please visit the website of the Sogetsu Headquarters.
